Every year, around 250 events take place at the Amsterdamse Bos. The forest’s beautiful, robust and intimate ambience provides the perfect setting for family activities, film and photo shoots, corporate outings and weddings as well as theatre, sports and dance events. January: Phanos Bosscross and Bosloop

Annual 10.1-kilometre running event through fields, forest and over hills. Not suitable for setting a new personal record, but certainly a challenge. For more information, visit

March: Drag Hunt

Drag hunting does not involve the hunting of animals. In drag hunts the hounds pursue a pre-laid trail of scent and the riders follow while overcoming obstacles along the way. The sight is spectacular. For more information, visit

April: Formula Future

Spectacular speedboat racing event on the Bosbaan lake. For more information, visit

April: Cherry Blossom Festival

Every year, Japanese expats from the Amsterdam area celebrate the coming of spring when the 400 trees in the Bloesempark are in bloom.

April: Combined Driving Competition

This equestrian sport has three phases – dressage, obstacle cone driving and cross-country marathon – during which the capacity of the riders to master their horses is assessed. For more information, visit

April: Dachau Remembrance

Annual remembrance of the liberation of Dachau concentration camp on 29 April 1945, held at the National Dachau Monument.

May: Amsterdam Forest Marathon Walk

Annual four-day evening walk of five or ten kilometres, organised by the Aalsmeerse Wandelsport Vereniging. The walk starts at the Amsterdam Forest Visitors’ Centre. For more information, visit

May: National Youth Hockey Championships (A/B)

National youth hockey championship finals. Head to the Wagener stadium for the best in Dutch youth hockey!

May: 909 Festival

Rolling techno beats, fairytale-like lighting and a magical atmosphere. 909 is an intimate, one-stage techno fest held at Amsterdamse Bos’s Kleine Speelweide from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. For more information, visit

June: Jazz at the Lake

Open-air waterside festival with surprising live performances by jazz, soul and funk artists. Enjoy the performances from the waterside or from the water.

June: Rough Golf Tournament

The Amsterdamse Bos will be turned into an 18-hole golf course for this tournament. For more information, visit

June: Midsummer Night’s Cross

Running event in the Amsterdam Forest held on the longest Friday of the year. The race starts at the main entrance to the Bos. Distances range from two kilometres (youth race) to 10 English miles (well trained runners).

June: Koninklijke Holland Beker

Rowing regatta on the Bosbaan in which rowers compete for the Holland Beker trophy. For more information, visit

July: A Day at the Park

August Dekmantel Festival

August: Ridderspektakel

The Ridderspektakel is a touring event for young and old with tough knights on horses, exciting falconry shows and a complete medieval village where you can go back in time and see how knights lived in the Middle Ages. Plenty of activities for all the family. For more information, visit

September: National Canoe Sprint Championships

Short sprint event at the Bosbaan in which the country’s best canoeists compete for the Dutch championship. For more information, visit

September: Dragon Boat Race

An open canoe with a dragon’s head at the bow with 16 rowers paddling in unison to the beat of a drum is always a special sight. The programme includes 200 and 500-metre races as well as a 2,000-metre race. For more information, visit

September: Bosbaanswim

Annual recreational swimming competition in the Bosbaan. Open to anyone aged 12 and over with a swimming diploma. Swim distances are 2,000, 1,000 and 500 metres. For more information, visit
