In het kort
In 2014 the Amsterdamse Bos celebrated its 80th anniversary. A host of special activities and events were planned to commemorate the moment when the first spade was put in the ground.
On 30 April 1934, the first spade was put in the ground for the construction of the Amsterdamse Bos. Using spades and metal dump carts on rails, 20,000 unemployed people started on what proved to be a long-term project. Now, 80 years later, the forest still looks magnificent.
This milestone was celebrated the whole year round with a varied programme of activities and events. Become a Friend of the Amsterdamse Bos and follow us on the Amsterdamse Bos's Facebook page!
