Video-updates renovation Bloesempark
We are renovating the Cherry Blossom Park in the Amsterdamse Forest. The current cherry trees are due for replacement, and we believe it is important to preserve the Cherry Blossom Park for future generations. The project involves replacing the trees, improving the soil and redesigning the layout of the Cherry Blossom Park. We will be posting video updates about the project on this page.
Shinto-ceremony, Sunday 9 November 2025
The Japan Women’s Club is closely involved in the redevelopment of Bloesempark. To this end, in the autumn of 2025, the Japan Women’s Club, the Amsterdamse Bos and the municipality of Amstelveen jointly organised a Shinto ceremony, an ancient Japanese tradition. During a Shinto ritual, thanks are given to nature and the forces around us. Prayers are also offered for prosperity, safety and harmony for everyone involved in the project.
Inspecting and felling dead trees, January 2026
Over the past few years, we have taken various measures to extend the trees’ lifespan as much as possible, but the trees are nearing the end of their lifespan and their condition is deteriorating rapidly.
In 2025, we identified 12 trees with no leaves on their branches – in other words, they were dead. We felled those trees on Friday 23 January. We are doing this to prevent branches from breaking off or the trees from being blown over during a storm.
A small number of trees are still in reasonably good condition. In January, we carried out a transplantability study to investigate whether we can retain these trees in the renovated Bloesempark.
We also carried out a soil survey. The soil survey revealed that the subsoil in particular is very compacted. This makes it difficult for the roots to penetrate deep into the ground and hinders the trees’ growth. As part of the renovation of Bloesempark, we are improving the subsoil by expanding the drainage system and adding extra soil. This will improve the growing conditions for the new trees we are going to plant.
